Hellesdon Play Area’s

Following government guidance now allowing for play areas to be opened from the 4th July, Hellesdon Parish Council were keen for the young residents to come and enjoy the new recently installed play equipment at the recreation ground next to the Community Centre off Wood View Road and the play area on Meadow Way.

The Parish Council had agreed on replacing the condemned unit in the under 5’s play area at the start of the year, and having it relocated to the Under 14’s play area, adding in extra pieces including a train with a ticket office, helping to encourage children in role play. The Parish council had agreed at the same time to replace the condemned unit at Meadow Way with a new multi-use unit. The total project was just over £66,000.00, and was funded through money received by development contributions from recent housing builds in the Parish.

The play area at the Community Centre was officially opened by Chloe Smith MP for Norwich North on Saturday Morning, she was joined by Karen Vincent Chairman of Broadland District Council along with Hellesdon Parish Councillor and County Councillor Shelagh Gurney, Chair of Hellesdon Parish Council and District Councillor David King and Vice Chair of Hellesdon Parish Council Bill Johnson. They were joined by some small residents too, who were keen be the first to test out the new equipment.

Chloe Smith commented “This is really fantastic news for the young people of Hellesdon; to have brand new facilities to play and a place for families to enjoy as the lockdown is lifted will help bring life back to our community. My thanks and congratulations to the Parish Councillors that have made this happen”

Karen Vincent said “It was lovely to see the play areas in Broadland being able to open again, with the guidance in place”

The Parish Council would like to thank the residents of Hellesdon for their support and understanding of the play grounds being closed through lockdown.
